STILL mad for Monochrome

The monochrome trend has snowballed its way through 2013, and it looks as though it’s here to stay. Present on models sauntering down the catwalks and quickly filtering down to the hightstreet, monochrome has been developed for the new season in the form of black and white checks, polka dots and animal prints.

Whether it’s a casual daytime ‘desk to dinner’ style you’re opting for, or a on-trend occasion outfit, any ensemble made of all black, all white, or varying tones of only one colour provides a blank canvas to play with in regards to accessories.

Bold or subtle, how will you wear your monochrome?

Alexandra Stedman, fashion stylist and blogger at the-frugality.com likes to “keep monochrome quite simple“.

Travelling a lot, I have to always have quick and easy outfits on hand. Monochrome is easy to wear and will look great on set as it will for dinner with a photographer afterwards!

Follow Alexandra’s simple take on the trend with these House of Fraser picks;

These Carvela boots have a mod-like quality, which will work great with a mini dress, or this season’s skirt style: the kilt.”

HWilsonHallie Wilson, a shoe-hoarding social media strategist and blogger behind coralsandcognacs.com, thinks that a look that’s consistently fresh and modern, despite being such a classic trend

The great thing about a monochromatic look is that you have a clean canvas to work with. At the office, I play up the minimalist vibe, accessorising it with aa sleek black pump or bootie. On the weekends, I opt for a trendier look – typically involving metallic pumps or sky-high stilettos.

Any outfit should make you feel confident and comfortable, but what I love about a monochromatic look is that it’s a real palette cleanser – sartorially speaking.

Wear your monochrome like Hallie with her top picks;

This printed coat is perfect for winter. I could see myself living in this waterfall cardigan, and of course, no outfit is complete without the perfect shoe – I’m loving the sleek, stretchy style of the Trish boot.

 AkewleyAmie Kewley, a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger at creditcrunchchic.com, thinksBlack and white are great bases for a multitude of looks, and most people suit them, so it’s easy to build looks simply.

I think Monochrome always does well because people tend to have a lot of base colours in their wardrobes already…

I certainly think monochrome has the potential to live on! I think for spring 2014 we will see a softer take on the look, maybe a tiny hounds tooth print mixed with a floral, or blocks of black and white in fluid shapes and styles.

See how Amie will be rocking the monochrome trend;

When you’re deciding on a tone or colour for your monochrome outfit, it really depends on your skin colouring and hair. I adore super-sharp black and white on someone with a really strong edgy haircut and ultra-glossy colour

Marc Jacobs is the designer to look to for monochrome inspiration. He inspired the fashion industry to embrace checkerboard and stripes! Also, take inspiration from classic Hollywood film stars – there’s no-one that does monochrome like Audrey Hepburn!
